Sticky Notes Extension
A Chrome extension that lets you add sticky notes to any web page and find them again when you come back.
Overview
Sticky Notes Extension lets you leave yellow notes on any web page. Notes can be dragged, resized and edited in place, and they are saved so they are there when you return to the page.
Platforms: Chrome
Problem
Bookmarks and separate note apps are far from the page you are reading. Notes placed on the page itself stay next to what they refer to.
Who it's for
Anyone who reads, researches or shops online and wants to jot things down on the page.
Key features
- Add a note to the current page from the toolbar popup
- Drag, resize, edit and delete notes right on the page
- Notes save as you type and reappear when you revisit the page
- The popup lists the notes for the site you are on
- No account, and nothing is sent to a server: notes stay in the browser's local storage
My role
Owner and builder of the extension.
Technology
React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Chrome extension (Manifest V3)
Challenges & trade-offs
- Two parts that talk to each other: a React popup and a plain TypeScript script injected into web pages, which exchange messages so the popup can place a note on the page you are viewing.
- Notes are stored against each page's address in the browser's local storage, so every page keeps its own notes without any server.
